The first co-convening of a webinar by the Association of American Rhodes Scholars & the Association of German Rhodes Scholars.

Moderated by General Michelle Johnson (Iowa & Brasenose ‘81), with panellists Admiral Dennis Blair (Virginia & Worcester ‘68), Ambassador Ekkehard Brose (Germany & St Catherines ‘81), Ambassador Michael McFaul (Montana & St John’s ‘86), Ambassador Martin Ney (Germany & Merton ‘81), and journalist/author David Satter (Illinois & Balliol ‘68).

Transatlantic ties have been crucial in the fight for democracy through two world wars and the Cold War. Our panel will explore the importance of these ties in today’s multi-polar world.

Connecting Current and Senior Scholars with each other through
Organising an annual meeting in Berlin that coincides with the election of the new class of German Rhodes Scholars
Hosting additional events and supporting regional gatherings
Fostering new connections, for example to support career development
Offering a point of contact for traveling Rhodes Scholars
Promoting the visibility and standing of the German Rhodes Scholarship
Disseminating information about the Scholarship and about Scholars
Strengthening the Rhodes Scholarship through financial support from Senior Scholars and other sources

The Association is supported by a Board of Directors, led by Dr. Andreas Poensgen, which coordinates its activities.

The Association's Board is more than happy to help Scholars organise regional gatherings and has successfully connected Scholars living in the same region in the past. Please contact us to let us know and we will help identify who lives within your region and can contact them on your behalf

How to donate

The Scholar’s Fund is vital to the success of the Rhodes Scholarships as it provides support for research, leadership programmes, events and specific aid in case of need to our Scholars in residence.
