The Association of Rhodes Scholars in Australia (ARSA) was established in February 1931 by Sir John Clifford Valentine Behan in order to foster, co-ordinate and maintain links between Australian Rhodes scholars as well as the Scholar selection committees in the various states. Sir Behan was ARSA's first Secretary and he was also Victoria's first Rhodes Scholar (1904). Sir Behan was succeeded in this role by fellow Scholar Sir George Paton, who held the role from 1953 until 1974. Today, ARSA is officially called the Association of Rhodes Scholars in Australia Incorporated.
