Biography

Kate Reed is a senior at Princeton University, majoring in history with certificates in Latin American studies and Spanish. Her research, which considers Mexico-US relations and alternative imaginings of development and democracy in Latin America, has been accepted for publication in "A Contracorriente: Journal of Latin American Studies" and "Nacla Report on the Americas." She has received several awards for her work, including most recently a grant to conduct archival research in Mexico City. She is passionate about immigrant rights and has run ESL programs for adult immigrants in Trenton, Elizabeth, and Princeton, NJ, and developed and taught an ESL-adapted history class to recent migrant students in Princeton High School. She is co-founder of Princeton's undergraduate workshop on Latin American history and president of Princeton University Language Project, which provides free translations to nonprofits. At Oxford, she hopes to pursue an MPhil in Development Studies.
