Biography
Julia Hampton completed her BA in Economics, English Literature and Economic History with distinction and is currently pursuing a BCom Honours in Economics at the University of Cape Town. As Executive Director of Phaphama Small Enterprise Development Initiative, Julia and her team work to deliver systematic, case-by-case value to entrepreneurs through South Africa's Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment and Enterprise Supply Development frameworks. She is inspired by the aspirations and dynamism of the entrepreneurs with whom she has connected so far, recognising stunted social mobility as a crisis of meaning and identity for some. She prioritises creativity and critical thinking and, without being naïve about the obstacles to inclusive development in a post-colonial, neoliberal world, she hopes to contribute to the socio-spatial transformation of cities.
