Biography

Deirdre J. Collins, Bermuda, graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology (French minor) from Georgetown University, where she wrote her thesis on the succession of microbial communities after deglaciation on nunataks of the Juneau Icefield, Alaska. Throughout her undergraduate career, Deirdre engaged in environmental science field research, analyzing Mars-analog sediments with the Johnson Biosignatures Lab, studying glaciology and botany on the Juneau Icefield, Alaska, and assessing coral reef resilience with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, where she received her AAUS Scientific Diver Certification. Deirdre also served as a News writer and the Business & Technology Senior Editor for her university's newspaper, The Hoya. Deirdre plans to pursue an MPhil in Environmental Change and Management to promote a multidisciplinary approach to environmental issues and the impact of climate change on her small-island home of Bermuda, and around the world.
