Inaugural Rhodes Forum on Humanities

Narratives of Change

16 - 17 November 2019

Rhodes House, Oxford

Co-convened by Karen O'Brien and Elleke Boehmer, the inaugural Rhodes Forum on Humanities will be taking place at Rhodes House on 16th and 17th November 2019.

Karen O'Brien, Head of Humanities Division, University of Oxford

Elleke Boehmer (South Africa-at-Large & St John's 1985), Professor of World Literature in English and Fellow, Royal Society of Literature

The inaugural Rhodes Forum on the Humanities will convene to discuss the role of stories in shaping the collective imagination. The stories we tell ourselves shape our identities, change our material realities, and transform our world: narrative can make and break borders, can perpetuate and repair injustice, and can build and divide communities. We seek to foster rich discussion on humanistic approaches to the world’s most pressing challenges, while allowing time for mentorship and guidance over a period of two days.
