Divestment from Colonialism at Rhodes House

What would it look like for the Rhodes Trust to divest its endowment from colonialism? Do you feel like you know little about these issues? Have you always had questions about divestment and never had an opportunity to ask them, especially in a space where hard and thoughtful questions are welcomed? Then, this is the event for you.

Our generation views the world at a crisis point, driven by an extractive form of global capitalism that has expropriated land and labour from expendable populations in order to power its own wealth accumulation. The Rhodes community has a special relationship to this colonial legacy. Hear from 3 Speakers who have been involved with divestment campaigns targeting today’s neo-colonial projects including the fossil fuel industry, the Israeli state’s occupation of Palestine, and the prison-industrial complex. Julia Peck (Oxford Climate Justice Campaign), Sam Matthew (Harvard Prison Divestment Campaign), and Nadine Jawad (Michigan & St Catherine's 2018; Students Allied for Freedom and Equality at University of Michigan) will answer questions about the work they've been involved with and the challenges to come.
