Ramadan Iftar hosted by Hassaan Shahawy (California & Pembroke 2016)

Experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of Ramadan during the 2nd Ramadan Iftar at Rhodes House! Ramadan is a month of the Muslim calendar in which Muslims fast from food and water from sunrise to sunset. It is an exercise in self-control, gratitude, and empathy with those who go hungry every day. At sunset, friends and family gather to break their fast in a shared meal called iftar. The meals are a lively occasion to celebrate the blessings of food, family, and community.

What We Witnessed: Debrief of 2019 Eden Palestine Trip

A trip to Palestine in March this year was enlightening and unsettling for those of us who got to visit the region as Eden Fellows. Scholars witnessed the realities of living under occupation, the strategies that Palestinians use to resist it, and the cost of the continued apathy of much of the rest of the world. Please join us as we share our experiences with others who were not on the trip, so that together we can build a community which is fighting the right fight.. Hosted by Calvin Runnels (Georgia & Balliol 2018)

Scholar discussion: Inspired by Anand Ghiridharas' book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World"

Anand Giridharadas' work raises important questions about impact, morality and the responsibilities we have to society and to each other. In his new book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World" author Anand Giridharadas argues that the wealthy have re-branded themselves as 'do-gooders' and monopolized the idea of 'Changing the World' in order to preserve the status quo--as well as obscure their own role in creating the societal problems they seek to address through their philanthropy projects.
