The Rhodes Trust has announced the reinstatement of a Rhodes Scholarship for Singapore. Young people aged 19-25 from Singapore will be eligible for the new Scholarships when annual applications open later this year.
The Trustees have selected Elizabeth Kiss (Virginia & Balliol 1983) as the next Warden of Rhodes House.
The Rhodes class of 2018 has been selected after a rigorous global process.
The 3rd Annual Healthcare Forum, held at Rhodes House on 4-5 November, saw an intense discussion on how to solve global health inequities with a focus on the particular challenges in low resource settings. The new programme will involve a long-term partnership to create a tailored 14-month Post-Doc program across a number of world class universities for up to 40 Schmidt STEM Fellows each year. The Schmidt Fund will also provide funding for additional geographic expansion of the Rhodes Scholarships.
96 Rhodes Scholars have been welcomed to Oxford in recent days – the largest cohort in the Scholarship's history. The new countries which have joined the Rhodes global community are Israel, Malaysia, and the SJLP region (Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine). Activities organised for the Rhodes Class of 2017 have included ‘Welcome Day’ events, dinners, Oxford tours and many social activities.
The Warden of Rhodes House, Charles Conn, has announced he will step down from his role when his five-year term expires at the end of the academic year in June 2018 but he will remain closely involved with the Trust as an active Senior Adviser.
