Chris Stone, an international expert on criminal justice reform and the leadership and governance of nonprofits, is president of the Open Society Foundations, a global philanthropy that supports human rights, democratic practice, and the rule of law in more than 100 countries around the world. Before joining the Open Society Foundations as president in 2012, Stone was the Guggenheim Professor of the Practice of Criminal Justice at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and director of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations. He previously served as director of the Vera Institute of Justice and founded the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, a community-based, holistic public defense practice.
