A Colorado native, Michael Zhu Chen is graduating from Stanford University with a B.S. in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Computer Science. Michael hopes to improve diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders as a physician-scientist. A Goldwater Scholar, Michael conducted neuroscience research and is a first author of a Science paper and co-author of other publications. He co-founded Synapse, a student-run support group for brain injury patients and has helped establish more than six chapters in colleges across the country. Michael tutors low-income middle school students from East Palo Alto through DreamCatchers. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming with the Stanford Club Swim team and performing Filipino dance with Stanford Kayumanggi. Michael plans to study public health policy and computational biology at Oxford.
