Mackenzie is passionate about individuals and families across the life span, as evidenced by her extensive community involvement both on and off educational campuses. In particular, Mackenzie works to advance the quality of life of students and the aged. Mackenzie put her interest in students’ advancement into action at all levels of the public education system. For example, Mackenzie conceived of and now leads/organizes the ongoing “Post-Secondary Possibilities Program” for pregnant and parenting teen mothers at a school in Alberta. This program intends to increase teen mothers’ knowledge of and interest in pursuing post-secondary. With respect to aging, Mackenzie conducts research with AGE-WELL NCE (Canada), conducted research at De Hogeweyk dementia village (Netherlands), and interned at the World Health Organization’s Centre for Health Development (Japan).
