Harj was raised in Tasmania, and completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of New South Wales. During his time at university Harj published widely and won many subject prizes and awards, most notably in the areas of Constitutional Law, International Law and Comparative Law. An avid mooter, Harj has won international prizes as a competitor and coach at the International Criminal Court Trial Competition and the World Human Rights Moot. Harj has a passion for his community, and has worked at public interest law organisations such as the NSW Environmental Defender’s Office, the Torres Strait Native Title Office and the Indigenous Law Centre. For relaxation, Harj plays club football, competes in triathlons and spends time at the beach near his home.
