Megan earned her BSc with First Class Honours in Astrophysics and is currently studying protein folding and energy landscapes on her way to an MSc in Condensed Matter/Biophysics at the University of Alberta. She has received numerous awards and scholarships including the Julie Payette NSERC Research Scholarship, the University of Alberta Gold Medal in Physics, and the André Hamer Postgraduate Prize. Megan has published multiple academic papers and has presented her research at various symposia. For the last two years, Megan has served as President of "The Last Alliance: The University of Alberta Tolkien Society", a group she co-founded. In addition to volunteering as an artist on the wards at the University of Alberta Hospital, Megan has volunteered her time teaching piano to underprivileged students and running a church choir. Megan is currently working toward her ARCT certificate in Piano and is an accomplished singer/songwriter; she has composed and recorded numerous original songs and plays and sings for weddings and local sporting events. She loves to skate and watch Star Trek in her spare time. A deep faith in God fuels her commitment to exploring the universe with sophisticated theoretical machinery and she is eager to use the beautiful principles of Physics to find solutions to human problems that are hidden in the natural world
