Ben will complete his MBBS this year. Mid-degree he took a year out from his medical curriculum to work on his Honour's thesis, researching Alzheimer's disease, and earlier this year he took an elective in neuropathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in further pursuit of his interest in neurodegenerative disease. Following medical voluntary work in 2010 in the former Sudan, Ben founded the Tasmanian Medical Auditing programme to provide assistance to South Sudanese hospitals and medical practices. Throughout his time at UTAS, Ben has served in a number of leadership positions including as a member of the Executive Council of the Australian Medical Association (Tasmania) and as President of the University of Tasmania Medical Student’s Society. For relaxation, Benjamin continues his involvement in athletics, particularly marathon running. Beyond Oxford, he hopes to train in clinical neurology and neuropathology and longer term he aspires to become a neurologist researching degenerative diseases of the brain.
