Other Information: Edward read for the BSc in Mathematics and Physics and is currently completing his Honours year in Applied Mathematics. Edward’s studies at UTAS attracted a number of academic prizes. Nevertheless, he also found time to play for the University Union Men's Hockey Club and was a member of the winning team in the Australian University Rogaining Championship in 2010; he also won the two-man, one-day division of the 2007 Freycinet Challenge. He is a keen bushwalker, an accomplished sailor and a self-taught celestial navigator. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Tasmanian Sail Training Association, volunteers for the Tasmanian State Emergency Service and as a member of the Search and Rescue Team. At Oxford he hopes to conduct research in the field of Ocean and Climate Science, where there is great scope for the contribution of mathematicians.
