Kopano studied for Clinical Medicine at the University of Cape Town. Passionate about empowering disatvantaged communities in Cape Town, Kopano is co-founder of WREMS (Waiting Room Education by Medical Students), a health promotion organisation educating patients and their families on common health conditions in the waiting rooms of mobile clinics.
She is also a published author and the winner of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa (2010) and of the European Union Literary Award for her novel Coconut.
