Welcome to the information page about the Rhodes Scholarships for Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine (SJLP). The Scholarships are generously supported by the Saïd Foundation.

There will be two Rhodes Scholarships in total which will be offered to enable two outstanding students from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon or Palestine – chosen on the basis of exceptional intellect, character, leadership and commitment to service – to study at the University of Oxford beginning in October 2017.  The Rhodes Scholarships for SJLP were announced on 1 June 2016, and the related news story can be read here.


Applications for the Rhodes Scholarships for 2017 for Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine are now closed.

Closing date: Applications for this region must be received by midnight, 30 September 2016 (Greenwich Mean Time)

Selection of the Rhodes Scholarship for SJLP is by a selection committee drawn from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, including both Rhodes Scholars and non-Rhodes Scholars.


Prospective applicants from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine should carefully review:

1. the general information about the Rhodes Scholarships,

2. the selection criteria that apply in all Rhodes constituencies, and then

3. the application criteria and procedures specific to Syria, Jordan, Lebanon or Palestine (revised August 2016).
