AARS Invitation: Reception in New Orleans, 22 April 2017

Dear Rhodes Scholar National Leaders,

As I mentioned on our call last December, the Association of American Rhodes Scholars is hosting a reception for all Rhodes Scholars, worldwide, April 22, 2017 in the iconic city of New Orleans. Please make plans to come and extend the invitation to the members of your respective alumni communities. It will be a fun and informative gathering, with an update from Oxford and special themed gifts (and libations)--but mainly a time to exchange memories with friends, old and new, with whom we shared the incredible experience of being amongst the "dreaming spires" for a transformative time in our young lives. You and your alumni community are cordially invited as my guests, as the President of the AARS.

Here are the details:

We will hold our spring AARS Board of Directors meetings in New Orleans April 21-23, 2017.  In conjunction with those meetings, we are planning a reception for all Rhodes Scholars early evening on Saturday, April 22. The Jones Walker law firm has generously agreed to provide us space for our events in their striking offices at 201 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, overlooking the Mississippi River and the French Quarter.  We have reserved a block of rooms at the historic and beautiful Roosevelt Hotel nearby, now a part of Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria collection.  To take advantage of the discounted rate of $299 per night for a Deluxe room, please make your reservations by following this link:  or by calling 1-800-WALDORF or in-house reservations at 504-335-3138, using the group code JOW.  These rates (which apply both before and after our reception, should you wish to extend your stay) will be available for reservations made up to March 31, 2017 but I suggest booking now. Please make plans to join us April 22 for an update from Oxford, to see old friends, and to meet new ones. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by emailing me at, which will help us plan our arrangements for the reception.

It will be a wonderful gathering, but it will be made even more special if you and your national colleagues will join us.

All best wishes, and as we say in that part of the Deep South: Laissez les bon temps rouler!
