In another public contribution in January, Heather Wilson (New Hampshire & Jesus 1982), who represented New Mexico as a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2008, wrote for The Washington Post on what she sees as the declining effectiveness of U.S. liberal arts education in developing breadth and critical thinking in undergraduates. In early February, Professor Caroline Hoxby (nee Minter) (Ohio & Magdalen 1988), visiting Oxford from her position at Stanford University, delivered the Clarendon Lectures in Economics in Oxford, speaking on 'The role of markets in education'.
