Annual Giving

Rhodes Scholars Supporting Scholars - Annual Giving Campaign

"Never in the history of the Scholarships have we as Rhodes Scholars had such scope to participate and contribute. Never has it been more crucial."

Don Gogel (New Jersey & Balliol 1971), Rhodes Trustee
Chair, Development Committee for the Rhodes Scholarships

The second year of Annual Giving to support the Rhodes Scholarships is underway. The Rhodes financial and Annual Giving year is from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Please give generously.

The aim is for each Rhodes Scholar class to provide the funding for at least one current Scholar in residence. For Scholars whose election year is 1998 or after, funds are available to support a 2:1 match for those classes who achieve an 80% participation rate.

To maximise the efforts, members of the Development Committee for the Rhodes Scholarships joined by fellow Scholars have agreed to match gifts up to $50,000 per class.

Your unrestricted annual contribution will help secure the Rhodes Scholarships for current and future generations. 100% of all donations will be directed towards the Trust's core expenditures - Scholar stipends and fees.  Your philanthropic investment is supporting leaders for the world’s future – current and future Rhodes Scholars.

Tax Deductibility

Rhodes Scholars and friends of the Trust who are US taxpayers can make full tax-deductible gifts for the benefit of the Rhodes Scholarships at any time during the year through one of two 501(c)(3) organisations under the US Internal Revenue Code:  Americans for Oxford, Inc. (AFO) or the American Trust for Oxford (ATFO).  To ensure tax efficiency and the necessary tax receipt, donations must be channelled through one of these organisations rather than sent directly to the Rhodes Trust in Oxford.

Americans for Oxford, Inc.’s (AFO) Federal Tax Identification Number (EIN): 52-1495060
American Trust for Oxford (ATFO) Federal Tax Identification Number (EIN): 13-6024454

As a US taxpayer you may make a donation to the Rhodes Scholarships in a variety of ways.  Options include cheques, credit card payments, bankwire and gifts of securities.

If you wish to make an online donation, clicking the ‘Give online’ option below will take you through to a secure website at Americans for Oxford (AFO). Please select the "Rhodes Trust" on AFO's dropdown menu indicating gift preference.

If you would prefer to send a cheque, clicking the ‘Give by post’ option below will enable you to print off a donation form which is then sent to the American Trust for Oxford (ATFO).

Give online           Give by post

To give directly by bankwire or transfer of securities, please contact Krista Slade at krista.slade@rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk or on +44 (0) 1865 270952 for details.

Corporate matched giving

It is sometimes possible to double or even triple the impact of your donation if your employer has a matched giving scheme in place.  This can easily be checked by searching our list of U.S. companies which participate in this scheme.  The matched giving form should be sent to the same 501(c)(3) as your original gift, which will be either Americans for Oxford (AFO) or the American Trust for Oxford (ATFO).

Gifts to the endowment and major gifts

The Rhodes Trust welcomes major gift commitments that can be paid over a number of years. Donors may specify that these contributions be channelled to the endowment for the support of the Scholarships in perpetuity. For more information on major gifts, including endowing Scholarships, please contact Krista Slade, Director of Development, at krista.slade@rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk or on +44 (0) 1865 270952.
