Eight new Rhodes Trustees from around the world

Eight new Rhodes Trustees have been appointed from several countries around the world, together bringing exceptional talent, energy, and commitment to ensuring the best possible future for the Rhodes Scholarships.
Following an invitation in late 2009 to members of the Rhodes community to make nominations for the appointment of new Trustees, over 50 nominations were received. From this outstanding field, the Rhodes Trustees have appointed eight new Trustees.
The new Trustees are:
- Dominic Barton (British Columbia & Brasenose 1984) – Global Managing Director, McKinsey & Company, London
- Donald Gogel (New Jersey & Balliol 1971) – President & CEO, Clayton Dubilier & Rice, New York
- Professor Margaret MacMillan – Warden, St Antony’s College, Oxford
- John McCall MacBain (Quebec & Wadham 1980) – Founder and President, McCall MacBain Foundation and Pamoja Capital, Geneva
- Festus Mogae – former President of Botswana, Gaborone
- Narayana N.R. Murthy – Founder-Chairman, Infosys, and former Chairman of the Indian Rhodes Scholarships selection committee, Bangalore
- Karen Stevenson (Maryland & Magdalen 1979) – Senior Counsel, Buchalter Nemer, Los Angeles
- John Wylie (Queensland & Balliol 1983) – Managing Director, Lazard, Melbourne
The Chairman of the Trustees, Lord Waldegrave, said that he was delighted that such distinguished supporters of the Rhodes Scholarships had all agreed with enthusiasm to serve as Trustees.
He and the Warden of Rhodes House, Dr Donald Markwell, also expressed gratitude to Lord Kerr and Lord Fellowes, who have served since 1997 and 2000 respectively and who will retire later this year, for their wise counsel and long-standing commitment to the Rhodes Trust.
The new Trustees are the first appointed on the basis of governance protocols adopted by the Trustees in March 2010. The governance protocols provide that between half and two-thirds of Trustees will be Rhodes Scholars, and that Trustees are appointed for a maximum of three four-year terms. The new appointments for the first time include a large number of Rhodes Scholars, who join current Rhodes Scholar Trustees from South Africa, New Zealand, the US, and Canada.
