Canadian Rhodes Scholars Foundation awards three scholarships for study in Canada
Congratulations are extended to three British students at Oxford who have been awarded scholarships from the Canadian Rhodes Scholars Foundation (CRSF) to undertake postgraduate study at Canadian universities.
The CRSF Scholarships were awarded to:
- Edmond Boullé, who is currently reading Law with Law Studies in Europe (Spain) at University College. Edmond reached the grand final of the Maitland Chambers University of Oxford Undergraduate Mooting Competition in 2009 and he spent a summer performing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a member of the National Youth Theatre.
- Samuel Johns, who is currently reading Geography at Hertford College. Samuel came top in his year in the first year preliminary examinations and completed his undergraduate dissertation on urban cycling. He competes on the Men’s 1st lacrosse team for Oxford, plays the trumpet and has volunteered in Asia and Central America.
- Harry Thorrington, who is currently reading Music at Magdalen College. Harry received a first in his moderations, a Demyship and a Music Scholarship. He runs the College Music Society, conducts the College Orchestra and plays the bassoon in the Catz Quintet. Harry is passionate about Music History and has volunteered with Music Plus, an organisation which works with disabled children.
The Scholarships are awarded on the basis of character and extra-curricular activities as well as academic excellence to permanent UK residents who have graduated or will graduate from Oxford within 24 months of the application process.
The Scholarships are funded by donations from Canadian Rhodes Scholars, other Rhodes Scholars living in Canada, and former beneficiaries of the CRSF scholarships.
Scholarships for study in Canada commencing in 2012 will be advertised on the Rhodes House and CRSF websites, with a closing date in October/November 2011.
An information session on the CRSF Scholarships for 2012-13 will be held at Rhodes House in May 2011. Further details will be posted on this website later.
