From Indiana to New Zealand, Rhodes Scholars seek and win elective office
In recent months, several Rhodes Scholars have been elected to public office, or been campaigning for office, around the world - from Indiana to New Zealand.
Just since November 2011:
HOLLY WALKER (New Zealand & University 2007) has been elected to the New Zealand Parliament on the Green Party list.
REVD RONALD THWAITES (Jamaica & Campion Hall 1968) has been appointed Minister for Education in Jamaica.
DELROY CHUCK (Jamaica & St Catherine's 1973) has become Leader of Opposition Business in the Jamaican House of Representatives.
PETE BUTTIGIEG (Indiana & Pembroke 2005) has been elected Mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
BOBBY JINDAL (Louisiana & New College 1992) has been re-elected Governor of Louisiana.
DAYNE WALLING (Michigan & St Peter's 1996) has been re-elected Mayor of Flint, Michigan.

ERIC GARCETTI (New York & Queen's 1993) is running for Mayor of Los Angeles.
TONY ABBOTT (New South Wales & Queen's 1981) is Leader of the Opposition in Australia, and
BOB RAE (Ontario & Balliol 1969) is Leader of the Liberal Party in Canada.
Recent recognition of the contributions of Rhodes Scholars in elective office includes, for example, the award to Gina Raimondo (Rhode Island & New College 1993), General Treasurer of Rhode Island, of the Urban Innovator Award from the Manhattan Institute's Center for State and Local Leadership.
