Welcome to the homepage of the Association of Zimbabwe Rhodes Scholars (AZRS).
The AZRS held an end of year Christmas event on Friday12 December in Harare. The event was kindly hosted by Angela Cummine (Australia-at-Large & New College 2007) at her lovely home in Harare. Oxford alumni and the Rhodes Scholar Selection Committee were also invited to the event. The mix of former and more recent Scholars and Oxford alumni, combined with the view of a beautiful garden on a candlelit and starry evening, provided the perfect setting to welcome the Scholars Elect for 2015, Rutendo Chigora and Christopher Sharwood. AZRS intend to host another event before the Scholars Elect depart for Oxford and we would encourage any Rhodes Scholars visiting Zimbabwe to get in touch.
Profiles of some of the Rhodes Scholars from Zimbabwe include:
Patrick Forth (Zimbabwe & Keble 1981) Managing Partner at the Boston Consulting Group.
Arthur Mutambara (Zimbabwe & Merton 1991) Zimbabwean politician who became the President of the Movement for Democratic Change in February 2006.
The objectives of the Association are:
- Connecting Current and Senior Scholars with each other, through events and communications.
- Promoting the visibility and standing of the Rhodes Scholarship in Zimbabwe.
- Strengthening the Rhodes Scholarship through financial support from Senior Scholars and other sources.
Events: These will be organised locally. Please do get in touch if you would like to organise or host an event. There will be an annual Harare reception during December.
How to organise regional meetings of Rhodes Scholars: The Association is more than happy to help Scholars organise regional gatherings. Please contact us to let us know and we will help identify who lives within that particular region and can contact them on your behalf.
For travelling Rhodes Scholars: If you are a Rhodes Scholar from anywhere in the world and want to connect with Zimbabwe Scholars, for example whilst travelling in the region, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to connect you with fellow Scholars.
